Helpful information when selecting a country club:
First of all, being a member of a country club can be a great lifestyle. There are many social activities to choose from and you will meet all kinds of people with the same interests. Whether you play golf or tennis, enjoy lounging by the pool or just fine dining there is something for everyone.
Before you make a decision on joining a country club you should do some research and select a club that fits your family lifestyle and budget.
Most private Country Clubs offer several membership options. The options are designed to meet your social/activity requirements and are priced accordingly on what's included in the option. For example, a "full privilege" membership would have the highest initiation fee and the highest monthly membership fee.
Here are some examples of typical memberships and what they include:
A "FULL PRIVILEGE" Country Club membership generally entitles the family (including children) to full use of the club including golf, tennis, pool and clubhouse facilities.
A "SOCIAL" Country Club membership generally entitles the family (including children) the use of the pool, tennis and clubhouse facilities. A social membership may include several rounds of golf per year.
A "POOL/ CLUBHOUSE" Country Club membership entitles the family (including children) the use of the pool and clubhouse facilities. A pool / clubhouse membership may include several rounds of golf per year.
A "CLUBHOUSE" Country Club membership entitles the family (including children) to use of the clubhouse.

Most private country clubs require that you be interviewed by a membership committee person and that you are approved by the membership board before you can join the club. This is generally just a formality the reality is most clubs want you as a member. Use this as an opportunity to ask questions about the club. Some questions you may consider asking are:
|
What is the financial status of the club i.e. how much debt?
How many current members are there and what is the membership goal & cap?
What is the history of assessments and are there any assessments planed?
What are the clubs operating days/hours?
If you have children, does the club offer activities or summer programs for children?
How open are tee times or tennis court reservations?
If you are a golfer, before joining ask to play the course (maybe more than once).
Request the contact information of a few members and ask them questions about the club.
Can your initiation fee (or portion of) be refunded if you are transferred or if the club doesn’t meet your expectations?
